Eragon - written by Christopher Paolini

Eragon is the first book written by Christopher Paolini. This is a fantasy tale involving a boy's growth into manhood and his journey toward realization of who he is to become. Eragon was raised by his uncle Garrow in a rural village. His mother had placed him with his uncle as an infant. No one knows who his father is, this is not revealed in this book. Paolini leaves enough loose ends to encourage readers to continue the tale, as soon as the next book is available.

Many elements are common to fantasy titles. There are sorcerers, monsters, villans with greater knowledge of magic and how to use it, a sword that has a "name", all things one comes to expect in a novel of this genre. It is the way Paolini blends the elements that makes this an exciting adventure. While it is a looooooong book, kids from 4th grade on up, who like fantasy, will enjoy Eragon. I'm looking forward to the next in the series, Eldest.

Comments:
I just read that ELDEST is set for release August 23...will it be hotter than Harry???
Here's a mini-review:
ELDEST
By Christopher Paolini
When ELDEST picks up, no time has passed since the end of Eragon. The budding dragon rider Eragon is setting out with his dragon Saphira to continue his quest to defeat the evil monarch. And he starts training to become a full-fledged rider. In the book Eragon makes unexpected allies and many new friends; he overcomes a disability that prevents him from fighting, and in the end, he stands up to a friend turned foe, and unleashes all he has got.

Speaking of "release dates," Eragon, the movie, opens December 15th "at a theater near you!" Have you seen the previews on TV? It looks awesome!
I haven't read the book yet, but it is next on my list. I want to read it before I see the movie.
