The Penderwicks (second posting) written by Jeanne Birdsall

I've finished The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits and a Very Interesting Boy! While this was a cute story of growing up and standing up for yourself, it was very bland. There was a feeling of "rich versus middle class" with the boy's rich mother being very obnoxious and rude. The other characters were fine. Not much action in this one, even with the kids running around a fancy garden and mansion. This is a comfortable read for those who don't like real adventure, but like stories about relationships that are safe and comforting.

Comments:
It really is a good book about diverse personalities and interesting relationships. The first love is especially well portraid and it has an aroma of nostalgic, magic summer adventure.

Mrs. Tifton is hard to beat as an "undesirable" character.
