Dragon Keeper by Carole Wilkinson

Dragon Keeper
In the far western mountains of China, a young orphan girl and a aging dragon are held captive by a cruel master who holds the imperial title of "Dragon Keeper". Alone and with no name the young orphan is completely without hope until she befriends the aging dragon and comes to his aid. They manage to escape just in time and the young orphan discovers her true destiny as "Dragon Keeper". As they begin their quest to the ocean, the orphan is in charge of the dragon stone which she carries and takes care of along the way. They are met by many adversities which they must overcome and soon they begin to trust each other.

This book was so interesting and somewhat similar to Eragon by Christopher Paolini only the main character was a girl, she was the first "Dragon Keeper" who was not a boy. My favorite thing about Ping(the orphan) is that she was lefthanded like me.
