The Beasts of Clawstone Castle - Eva Ibbotson
A very interesting and "ghostly" adventure! Madlyn and Rollo go to stay with their Great Aunt Emily and Great Uncle George at the ancient family home - Clawstone Castle. Their parents have gone to America on business, and the children must live in the Castle for the whole summer. It doesn't have internet, it doesn't have television - what will they do???? Clawstone Castle is a tourist attraction (sort of). It is home to a legendary herd of Wild White Cattle. Clawstone is not a very successful tourist stop, however, especially when compared to the neighboring Trembellow Towers, the castle down the road. Trembellow Towers is very fancy, with quality antiques and a quaint cafe.
The upkeep of the Wild White Cattle herd is becoming too expensive, something must be done to encourage paying tourists to visit Clawstone Castle, quickly. The children come up with a bold plan - they audition and hire ghosts to haunt the Castle. Things are looking up, when more sinister villians enter the story, and the children find themselves in the middle of a mystery.
A really fun read, full of adventure, ghosts, and mystery. Madlyn and Rollo have a wonderful summer adventure as they try to save both Clawstone Castle and The Wild White Cattle.
