So B. It by Sarah Weeks
"So B. It" is a wonderful story about a young girl named Heidi who is on a journey to find herself. She knows that she doesn't have a father. She has Mama and Bernadette. Her mother has a "bum brain" and it doesn't work right. Bernadette is a neighbor who becomes part of her family. Bernadette or "Bernie" as Heidi calls her became her teacher and caregiver from the moment she and Mama appeared at her door, in soaking wet clothes.
When a word in her mother's vocabulary starts to haunt her,
Heidi needs to set out on a journey to find out more about the secrets of her past. It is on this journey, going across country on her own, that Heidi learns what "truth" is.
I suggest you read this suspenseful novel; for when I started
reading it I had a hard time putting this book down. I wanted to find out more about Heidi and the word that haunted her "soof". What could it mean? Why did Mama say it so often?
It took Sara Weeks four years to write this book. It took me a couple of hours to read it. Yet this book made me really think and feel things differently and will for a long time.
