Blind Mountain by Jane Resh Thomas

Blind Mountain
Sam would rather be practicing with his band than rock climbing with his father and their border collie. He thinks that he is only going for a day. Because of a mishap, they have to spend the night in the wilderness. The father uses profanity and continuously taunts his son. Sam gives it back to his father, but at least Sam knows when to quit. They truly have a bonding experience. The father learns about the skill and courage of his son. Sam learns to lead and accepts that he doesn't have to prove his worth any longer.

Even though this book is about a twelve year old. nine to eleven years old might enjoy this adventure the most. This is not Jane Resh Thomas's first book. She uses information about nature without being pedantic. I understand that most of her books include some element of nature. I anticipate that I will read the next one outdoors - - -
naturally.
