Wonder by R. J. Palacio
It is very unusual for a book to have just one word in the title. It is unusual that this is the first book written by this author. It has already received so many positive reviews. I am warning you right now, the cover does not match up with the story. I am sure that you will discover the mistakes by yourself.
Auggie has a rare genetic disorder. His face is so malformed that he has had 27 operations. He has been home schooled his entire life. His mother thinks that it is time for him to go to school. What would fifth grade be like for Auggie? They find the right time and the right school.. The principal and the staff could not have been more supportive. A teacher highlights a new precept every month. These children are so receptive; they could have given a new precept every day. Auggie is realistic and knows that people are whispering behind his back. He is so smart, funny and most KIND. If you like realistic fiction with a happy ending, this is a must-read. Kindness rules. Readers will get the big picture and apply these insights to anyone who stands out or can't control being different.
