Just his luck, Charlie Bumpers worst fear is confirmed when he finds out that his new treacher is Mrs. Burke. She has to be the strictest teacher in the fourth grade and the whole school.  Just because she was named "Teacher of the Year" doesn't make Charlie any less afraid of her. Plus Charlie is convinced that she "HATES" him.  There was this incident in the hallway, where Mrs Burke got clobbered by Charlie's flying shoe.

How oh how will Charlie survive to the end of the year without getting noticed by the teacher who is just waiting for him to do the wrong thing? Charlie is convinced that he should not be in her class especially since his best friend Tommy got the nice Mrs. L. 

It doesn't take long for Charlie to clash with the "Teacher of the Year", but he learns that even though he makes mistakes, Mrs. Burke can be an ally when you need her most.
