The Ghosts of Tupelo Landing by Sheila Turnage
Mo LoBeau is back with her Desperado Detective partner, Dale Earnhardt Johnson III and the whole Tupelo gang to solve yet another mystery. As summer winds down, an auction sparks the interest of the entire town. Unexpectedly, Miss Lana, Mo's chosen mother, purchases a dilapidated inn with the help of Miss Lacy. Even more unexpectedly, Miss Lana also purchases a real, honest to goodness ghost in the process! Of course, seasoned detectives, Mo and Dale step up to solve the mystery of the ghost and discover the secrets of the inn, which happen to be the secrets of the whole town. The fact that the Desperado's history grade depends on their success only sets the stakes higher.
But there is someone new in town to complicate matters. Crenshaw, Harm Creshaw, a fellow sixth grader, has arrived and he is determined to make things difficult for Mo. With his quick wit and smart tongue, Mo has finally met her match in Harm.
So will Mo and Harm become friends or stay bitter enemies? Who is the ghost, and why has she decided to haunt the Inn? Will Mo and Dale pass history? There are many questions to be answered in this wonderful sequel about dealing with the past in order to move on in the future. Mo is as sassy as ever, and the people of Tupelo Landing are just as quirky as before. The book is full of whimsy and humor, and makes for a great read for fifth grade and up, or a fabulous family read aloud. I just can't get enough of Mo, the hilarious supporting characters, and the small town of Tupelo Landing, so I will be eagerly awaiting a hopeful third book! If you have read Three Times Lucky, you will definitely want to pick up this book!
